Family and inheritance in Agency Life: children, wills and dynasties

Updated October 17, 2026

In Agency Life your story does not have to end when your character dies. You can continue as one of your children and build a family dynasty over generations. Here is how families and inheritance work.

Your family

Your family

Every new life starts with parents, and often with siblings and grandparents too, a different family every time. Until you turn 18 your parents pay for you. Keep good relationships with them during your childhood.

Children

With a partner you can have children or adopt. Children grow up over the years, and your relationship with them matters just as much as with anyone else. They are also the key to the next generation.

Continuing as your child

When your character dies, you choose which child you continue with. Your family name, part of your wealth and your story carry on. Before that, a second chance can bring you back once per life.

Inheritance without a will

Without a will, legal inheritance rules apply. A spouse gets half, the children share the rest equally. Without a marriage, the children share everything, and an unmarried partner inherits nothing. If there are several heirs, houses and cars stay with the spouse or are sold, and each child gets their share in money. An only child without a surviving spouse inherits everything as it is.

Inheritance with a will

With a will drawn up at the notary, which is expensive, the child you name inherits everything, including houses and cars. Spouse and siblings then only receive their compulsory share in money, half of their legal share.

Inheritance tax

Children pay inheritance tax: the first €400,000 are tax free, above that between 7 and 30 percent of the whole rest. The house the family lived in stays tax free if the child takes it over. If there is not enough money for tax and compulsory shares, cars are sold first, then other houses, and the family home last.

Tips for a dynasty

Make a will in good time so your heir keeps the houses. Keep the family home in the family, it is tax free. Invest in stocks and real estate rather than cash, and give your children a good start: education, a good relationship and a little capital. See the real estate guide.
